Frequently asked questions.
Apartment EV charging, explained — for residents, owners, committees and strata managers.
Can I install my own EV charger in my apartment car park?
Usually not on your own. In Queensland apartment buildings, car parks and the electrical infrastructure that would supply a charger sit on or cross common property, so installation needs body corporate approval — and often general-meeting approval for larger works. That's the blocker Plug Together exists to remove: we bring the proposal, funding, compliance documentation and approval templates so the building can say yes.
What does EV charging cost the body corporate?
In our standard offer, little to nothing upfront: Plug Together funds the chargers and installation and recovers its investment through the price of the energy sold over a multi-year agreement. Commercial structures where the building contributes upfront in exchange for better terms are also available. We recommend the right structure after a free site assessment.
What do residents pay?
Residents pay per kilowatt-hour for the energy they use — no hardware to buy, no installation cost, no subscription required in the standard offer. Pricing is set per building and confirmed in the proposal to your body corporate; it's designed for everyday use and compares well against public DC fast charging, which typically runs around $0.45–$0.68 per kWh before you count the time spent driving there and queueing.
How does a shared charging bay work?
The charger sits in a designated common-property bay that participating residents use in rotation: park, plug in overnight, then move your car. A typical driver needs about one substantial overnight session a week, so one charger serves several EVs. Fair-use rules, app-based availability, a grace period after charging completes and an idle fee keep the bay rotating fairly.
Isn't 22 kW AC charging too slow?
Not overnight. A 22 kW AC charger delivering around 7 kW to a typical car adds roughly 300+ km of range in an overnight session — more than a week of average driving. Speed matters at a highway rest stop; in your own basement, the car simply charges while you sleep.
Who maintains and insures the chargers?
Plug Together owns, monitors and maintains the equipment for the life of the agreement, manages licensed electricians for any repairs, and provides the compliance and insurance documentation your committee and the building's insurer need.
What happens if the charger is occupied when I need it?
The app shows availability and lets you queue or book. Because charging is mostly overnight and each car needs only about one session a week, contention is low in practice — and if demand grows beyond the first bay, adding a second charger on the already-installed electrical backbone is straightforward.
How long does it take to get charging installed?
The main variable is the body corporate approval cycle — a committee decision can be quick, while a general-meeting resolution waits for the next meeting (or an extraordinary one). The physical installation is typically short once approved. We manage the whole path and send the committee a written progress update every week during delivery.
Does adding EV charging increase the building's value?
Charging availability is fast becoming something buyers and tenants expect, and buildings without it risk becoming less attractive as EV adoption grows — battery-electric vehicles are already about one in five new cars sold in Australia. A funded charging service lets a building add that amenity without a special levy.
Which areas does Plug Together serve?
We're launching across South East Queensland — Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast — focused on existing apartment buildings. Elsewhere in Queensland? Register your interest anyway; resident demand tells us where to expand next.
What does the electricity price review process look like?
The agreement includes periodic, transparent rate reviews reflecting movements in electricity input costs, maintenance and market conditions — with the mechanism written into the agreement your body corporate approves, so there are no surprises.
Where do I find my quote or invoice?
Quotes and invoices are sent by email with a secure personal link — check the email we sent you, and contact us at hello@plug-together.com if you need it re-sent. For security, never share that link, and we'll never ask you to paste it into a website form.
